Breakfast Menu
You may choose your time for breakfast to suit your plans, although in general we hope to have finished serving by 10am.
We use as much fresh, local produce as possible, having an excellent butcher and greengrocer in Appleby. Our sausages and bacon are made by our butcher from locally reared pigs. We are also committed to using Fair Trade products, including bananas, where they are appropriate and available.
Fruit juices, fresh fruit salad (e.g. pineapple and mango) or stewed fruit (e.g. prunes and apricots), a range of cereals, including excellent Traidcraft fairly traded mueslis, and a fruit bowl are all available for guests to help themselves.
We ask you to select your other breakfast choices the previous evening, which allows timely presentation at breakfast time and helps prevent wastage. These include:
- Porridge or half a fresh grapefruit.
- Full English breakfast, cooked on our Aga with a minimum of added olive oil, may be chosen from sausage, bacon, mushrooms, tomato, baked beans, home-made hash browns and local free-range eggs (fried, poached, scrambled or boiled).
- Alternative breakfasts include buttered kipper fillets, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or waffles with yoghurt and fresh fruit.
- We make our own bread to toast on the Aga and you may choose white or brown (granary or wholemeal) to enjoy with butter curls or Flora and home-made marmalade and jam or fairly traded honey.
- Tea (fairly traded normal, decaffeinated or Earl Grey tea or a range of herb teas) is brewed freshly as you arrive in the dining room and freshly brewed filter coffee (fairly traded normal or decaffeinated) is provided on a hotplate.
Packed Lunches
With prior notice, we can supply packed lunches including sandwiches, crisps, fruit and fairly traded cereal bar and fruit juice. There will be an additional charge for this service, depending on the content.
