The first time Peter and I visited Broom Cottage we knew we had found somewhere very special and our dream was to restore it and to share it with our family and guests.
As you round the corner of the drive you feel as if you are in a different world, tranquil and far away from the rush of the rat race. The views of the green pastures of the Eden Valley are extensive, with tantalising glimpses of the Pennines through the trees.
Our plot is about two acres and contains a wildflower meadow with a stream, pond and copse as well as garden. If you just want to relax you may want to go no further than a bench by the pond or a seat in the sun room.
There is the whole of the beautiful Eden Valley to explore by car, bike or on foot, and wonderful walks on the Pennine fells. Further afield, we are only half an hour from Ullswater and Blencathra in the northern Lake District.
Broom Cottage is an old farmhouse. The present stone-built cottage is 18th century, but the attached cow byre is built of clay and probably much older. We have spent three years lovingly restoring it as a family home, blending the best of the traditional with the comfort and convenience of modern fittings. Come and share it with us!
